Privacy Policy
Effective date: September 7, 2026
This is a starting draft, not legal advice.
This document was written to reflect how EduTemples actually works today. It has not been reviewed by a qualified lawyer and must not be treated as a substitute for one. Do not rely on this page, or launch this platform publicly, without independent legal review appropriate to your jurisdiction.
1. Data We Collect
- Profile information: name, email and/or phone number, role (student or tutor), and optional profile photo.
- Tutor application data: subjects, boards/exam categories, hourly rate, years of experience, bio, and verification documents (qualification certificate and government ID), stored privately in Amazon S3 and never made public.
- Booking and payment data: session date/time, price, and payment status. Payments themselves are processed by Razorpay — EduTemples does not collect or store your card, UPI, or bank account details.
- Ratings and messages: ratings and written feedback left after a session, and messages exchanged between a student and tutor who have booked a session together.
- Usage data: basic account activity (logins, bookings made) needed to operate the platform. We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand traffic and how people move through the platform — page views and a small set of product events (such as searching, viewing a tutor's profile, or completing a booking). These events carry IDs and categories only (e.g. a tutor's ID, a session's price), never your name, email, or phone number. See Section 7 for the cookies this involves.
2. How We Use It
We use this data to operate the marketplace: matching students with tutors, processing bookings and payouts, verifying tutor credentials, enabling live video sessions and messaging, computing ratings, and sending transactional emails and in-app notifications about your own activity (booking confirmations, application status, new ratings). We do not sell personal data.
3. Who We Share It With
We share the minimum necessary data with the infrastructure providers that make the platform work: Razorpay (payments), AWS (hosting, storage of verification documents, database, email delivery), and LiveKit (live video sessions). We do not share personal data with advertisers or data brokers.
4. Data Security
Verification documents are stored in a private S3 bucket, readable only via short-lived signed URLs generated for an authorized viewer (you, or an admin reviewing your application) — never as a public link. Database connections use an encrypted connection. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security of information transmitted over the internet.
5. Minors' Data (K-12 Students)
EduTemples serves K-12 students in addition to adult learners, and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) requires verifiable parental or guardian consent before processing a child's personal data, along with restrictions on tracking, behavioral monitoring, and targeted advertising directed at children.
Honest gap to flag: the current sign-up flow does not yet implement a separate verifiable parental-consent step — a K-12 student signs up the same way an adult does. This needs to be addressed, with legal guidance, before this platform is opened to the public. We do not run targeted advertising or ad personalization of any kind today, for any user (see Section 7 for the analytics measurement we do use), which at least avoids the most serious DPDP concern in the interim — but consent flow, and how a parent can review or delete a minor's data, both remain open items.
6. Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data by contacting us via our Contact page. Some data (for example, records of completed payouts) may need to be retained for legal or accounting purposes even after a deletion request.
7. Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser local storage for session authentication and small per-device conveniences (like a remembered UI preference). We use Google Analytics (GA4), which sets its own first-party cookies to measure traffic and the product events described in Section 1 — we do not use these for advertising, ad personalization, or targeted advertising of any kind.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by an updated effective date at the top of this page.
